In June 2024

In June, our summer issue, we look at the textiles from across Asia and the Islamic world, including textiles from Safavid Iran, Chin textiles from southeast Asia, and wedding robes from Japan. And explore the art and architecture of the Yuanmingyan (Garden of Perfect Brightness) in Beijing.

Elsewhere in the issue, we consider the life of Tipu Sultan, β€˜The Tiger of Mysore’ and explore Indian Modernism and its rebels – paintings from 20th century India.

Two exhibitions of Japanese prints can be seen in London over the summer - Yoshida: Three Generations of Japanese Printmakers in Dulwich and Edo prints, focusing on characters from the floating world – kabuki actors, geishas, and courtesans. And viewing Bizen ceramics from Japan and Buncheong ceramics from Korea.

In summer travel, we discover The Silk Museum in Tblisi ,Georgia, and the influences of the Silk Road on the region and discover the charms of Puducherry (Pondicherry) in Tamil Nadu.

As always, there will be a round-up of June auctions, previews of exhibitions over the summer, and gallery shows, plus Islamic Arts Diary.

There are no issues in July and August – next issue September 2024.
