In May 2024

In the May issue we cover Painting the Persianate World: Portable Images on Paper, Cloth and Clay, looking at the fluidity and transmission of language and culture through images on manuscripts, textiles and ceramics created between the 1300s and 1800s. Phoenix Kingdoms, on show at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, reveals the splendour, sophistication, and extravagance of two kingdoms that flourished at the end of China’s Bronze Age – the Zeng and the Chu. LACMA, in Los Angeles, is showing Korean Treasures from the Chester and Cameron Chang Collection, drawn from the largest gift of Korean art in the museum’s history.

Also included in this issue is our guide to the gallery shows, auctions, museum exhibitions and events during Printemps Asiatique in Paris in June, as well as a look at exhibitions in France over the summer.

Elsewhere in the issue we explore Shan textiles and textiles from Safavid Iran, Japanese prints and contemporary ceramics.
